Overseas Study Program FY2019

Our overseas study programs are characterized by direct exchanges with business schools in East Asia, a region which has maintained economic interdependence with Japan, and by the visits to and exchange with outstanding local companies. Through which, we aim to help students develop an international way of thinking in business and to create a human network. This year, we set up exchange programs in the Chinese region, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, similar to past years’ programs. Students attended special lectures and participated in panel discussions with business managers who graduated the EMBA course at Shenzhen University and the Lingnan College of Sun Yat-sen University, respectively. They also visited and had networking meetings at local companies.

On September 9, we paid a courtesy visit to Director TAO Yitao of the China Special Economic Zone Research Center and the Belt and Road Research Institute (Shenzhen) for International Cooperation and Development of Shenzhen University, and Deputy Director LIU Yi. In the morning, students attended a BS special lecture by Deputy Director LIU Yi titled “Economic Growth and Innovation in Shenzhen.” In the afternoon, they attended a special lecture under the theme of “Present and Outlook of Assets Management in the International Finance Center, Hong Kong” by Vice President Gilbert WAN of SUN HUNG KAI INVESTMENT SERVICES Ltd., and received detailed explanations about Hong Kong economy features that has attracted much attention from all over the world.

On September 10, we visited AI Speech Co., Ltd. that has focused on intelligent voice language technology, and had an interview and a company tour. We observed a robot introducing voice language technology that AI Speech Co., Ltd has developed and experienced outstanding technology at the company. In the afternoon, we visited Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. for an interview and a showroom tour. We realized that they have placed importance on commercialization of 5G, a next-generation technology in the field of communication.

On the morning of September 11, we paid a visit to GACToyota Motor Co., Ltd. in Guangzhou to see its assembly line of automobiles. We realized that they made various improvements for saving energy and better working environment at the factory. In the afternoon, we visited HK Sunwah Group (HuaNan) and had an active exchange of opinions with the staff on issues in the fields of IOT、welfare and agriculture. Then, we visited Guangdong-HK-Macao Bay Area Entrepreneur Union.

On the morning of the 12^th, we went to Guangzhou ZIB Artificial Intelligence Technology Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of intelligent robots for kids and experienced a new education method with the use of AI technology through performances of an education robot. Students also attended a special lecture by Mr. Leo Wang, the founder of the company. In the afternoon, we visited Lingnan College of Sun Yat-sen University to co-organize a special seminar under the theme of “Japan-China Companies’ Business Partnership Model Under the U.S.-China Trade Conflicts.” We exchanged opinions in a panel discussion with EMBA-graduate businessmen and discussed how to facilitate partnership by overcoming differences of culture and the sense of value between the two countries.

On September 13, we visited Hutchison Whampoa Guangzhou Baiyunshan Chinese Medicine Co., Ltd. for an interview regarding Development of new drugs for Chinese Medicine and a tour of the in-house Museum on Chinese medicine. Then, we went to the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall that is known as the jewel of Lingnan architecture and art, where we were able to fully enjoy the art of Chinese architecture.

While managing our tight schedule, we were able to get the latest information and knowledge on the local economic and industrial situation, the secrets of successful business models and the competitiveness of companies. At the networking events with local top management, more than 20 business owners and senior managers gathered. We received a warm welcome and had heated discussions with them. The participants were divided into six groups to exchange individual conversations, and we have recognized that the concrete and effective business matching was also obtained through those discussions.
