2023 Overseas Training Programme

Dates: Sunday, September 10 – Saturday, September 16

The Director of the Center for Chinese Business Studies, Prof. Xiaoping Wang, and Specially Appointed Researcher Mimi Fujitaka led an overseas training group of graduate students to Taiwan. Here the 2023 Overseas Training Programme was successfully implemented with the support of the National Chung Hsing University College of Management , the affiliated Cornerstone Center for Academia-Industry Research (Taichung City) , and Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research (Taipei City).

All of the events on the busy schedule were successfully completed. The events included six special lectures by local researchers and two discussion classes for EMBA graduate students (including alumni), inspection visits to eight local companies and two high-tech parks, and participation in four welcome reception meetings organised by the business schools with which we interacted, and the alumni association.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, this was the first time in four years that an on-the-job training exchange had taken place. All the participants were able to experience first-hand the high levels of hospitality offered by the local host, the close cooperation and exchange between the business school and the alumni network, and the energy and drive within the industry-academia cooperative support system.

As part of this international academic exchange programme, National Chung Hsing University held a congenial welcome ceremony during the morning of September 11. This noteworthy event was graced by the presence of Vice President for International Exchange, Chi-Chung Chou, Dean of the School of Management, Ying-Jiun Hsieh, Vice Dean Chia-Pin Chen, and former Vice Dean and Director of Cornerstone Center for Academia-Industry, Guohe Lin. Other attendees included key personnel from the business school, the alumni chairman, and the student chairman. During the ceremony it was proposed that a plan to schedule annual mutual visits and exchanges should be established.

After a tour of the university campus, the students attended Business School lectures throughout the day.

At the EMBA discussion classes in Taichung and Taipei, we were able to have face-to-face exchanges with alumni who are managers and senior managers working for local companies and other business corporations. Awareness regarding the characteristics of professional management education in Japan and Taiwan and the potential for future mutual business collaboration was developed.

The local companies visited on this occasion were all either industry-specific or had established business models, and the higher management figures we came into contact with – having grasped success through hardship – shared a wealth of business experience with us. Their confident tone, despite the currently challenging international business environment, was impressive.
